On walking meditation

“Go slowly, walk as if you are kissing the earth with your feet”

Im not sure who said that but recently I cant stop thinking about it. It helps me to slow down and really feel the steps im taking. To feel that I am really in this world as a human. It centers me and gives me presence. Also it made me realise that mediation is not something you need to sit down to do. Meditation is about feeling your immediate experience. In the beginning when you start meditation there is some much fog in your head. A fog consisting of thoughts and feelings. They take alot of space. To get past that you need to sit down to give yourself that specific space to pass through the fog.

As you meditate you get better and better to find that endless calm that sits behind the fog. Its incredible when you first connect with that side of yourself. What happened for me after that is that meditation became one thing and my regular everyday experience was another thing. Calm and observant me and lost in thought me.

It was like that for a long time. But lately I have been able to meditate while walking and it has made it alot easier to blend the two worlds.

WALKING MEDITATION

  1. Take a deep breath and feel yourself come into a place of calm.
  2. Bring to mind how you dont really know at all how your legs are moving.
  3. If you dont know how your legs are walking, then how can you know where your legs will take you?
  4. See if you can relax into the feeling of not knowing where you are headed
  5. Let go of your legs.
